Royalty Free Classical Music

Classical music generally refers to music written for a group of musicians who play orchestral instruments such as violins, violas, cellos and double basses (strings), flutes, clarinets, oboes, bassoons (woodwind), trumpets, trombones, French horns, tuba (brass) , and percussion such as timpani or kettledrums, xylophones and glockenspiel. Royalty free Classical music covers many styles dating over hundreds of years, although today it is mostly thought of as music in the educated European tradition including forms as art song, chamber music, opera, and symphony, rather than folk or popular music or jazz. We have excellent examples ready to download in our Royalty Free Music library.

Classical music dating from before 1400 is known as medieval music, and is mostly religious such as Gregorian Chant. From 1400-1600 is known as the Renaissance Period, and the music is hence referred to as renaissance music, with the period marking an increase in secular music, madrigals and art song. Much great music was produced in this period, as well as great works of art.

The Baroque period dates from 1600 to 1750, and is recognised by its intricate ornamentation style. Music from this period may share the same generic title of Baroque Music, but the styles can vary considerably, as the period marked the beginning of a growth in self expression, open forms, and the formation of counterpoint harmonies.

The Classical and Romantic periods span from around 1750 to 1900, and started with the balanced and well structured Classical Sonata form. Romantic music can be described as larger, more emotional and programmatic, where the composition and structural rules established by the earlier Classical period are often broken. This period also introduces an exploration of using larger ensembles.

Through the 20th century to today, the styles have varied limitlessly, as classical music has evolved to take advantage of newer technologies, and composers have written however they pleased to reflect the changes around them.
