Royalty Free Funk Music
The origins of Funk music can be traced back to the late
1960's with artists such as James
Brown "The Godfather of Soul", the MG's, Sly
& The Family Stone, and The Meters. Growing out of soul
music, funk de-emphasized melody and harmony, bringing rhythm
to the foreground. We have royalty free funk music of the
highest quality, available for instant download. Funk recordings
often consisted of a complex groove in which every instrument
played a different 'groove' or rhythm, with all the sounds
fitting together to make a complete musical picture. Whole
song sections, such as verses or chorus, may be written without
a chord change, relying on the rhythm of the various instruments
to give the song its feel and flavour.
Perhaps the most creative artist of early funk music was
George
Clinton, whose bands Parliament and Funkadelic adopted
the ethos of the current psychedelic counterculture and created
a sound that mixed jazz, soul, and also drew on elements of
white rock music.
Funk music has had an influence on many other musical styles
through to the present day. The acid jazz movement of the
1990's could be seen as a funk revival, featuring artists
such as The
Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai. The relationship between
Hip Hop and funk music is probably unique in musical
history. Hip Hop is based on sampling funk records of the
60's and 70's, so funk music can be described as the building
material for hip hop.
